What a journey it’s been! The first day of Miss Teen Canada-World has finally arrived. The moment that all of the delegates have been waiting for is here! I have worked so hard these past few weeks preparing for the pageant and it has all been worth it. This journey has been great and I can’t wait to see how it will end. Being a part of this amazing pageant is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I feel truly blessed to be apart of it. From my first pageant to this pageant I have learnt many new things and have grown as a person. I have had the privilege to discover myself more deeply and have learnt numerous skill that will help me along my future.
My first pageant, Miss North Ontario Regional Canada pageant, was one of the best moments of my life. It was there where I discovered my passion for everything pageant related. Preparing for my first pageant was eye opening. I had to learn how to approach businesses and ask for sponsorships (something I had never done before). I learnt how to organize a huge fundraiser. I organized a pancake breakfast fundraiser for North Ontario Families of Children with Cancer. Organizing this fundraiser was challenging at times
(being the first major event I had to organize) but everything went smoothly, thanks to everyones help. The joy that I felt after being able to raise money for such a great charity was overwhelming. It was definitely the highlight of doing a pageant. I also had the opportunity to became more involved with my community than I had been prior to my first pageant. Spending my spare time volunteer was extremely rewarding to me. I discovered how much I loved playing an active part in my community by giving back and helping out in anyway possible. Also, I was able to be in the local newspaper; I had felt a sense of pride and joy to be recognized within the community. Once I arrived at the pageant there were many self development workshops. This gave me the opportunity to learn and discover new things about myself. It was at this pageant (my first one), Miss North Ontario Regional Canada pageant, where I was selected to participate at the Miss Teen Canada-World 2013 pageant. I was chosen to be part of a national pageant, wow what a great feeling!
Getting ready for Miss Teen Canada-World 2013 was a busy time. I was selected early May to participate but only got all my information by the end of May. May 31st, I attended my first event as Miss Teen Espanola World 2013; it was a fundraiser for Emily Rose Richer. Emily is a little girl with many medical difficulties. June 1st, I attend the Espanola Duathlon. It was great to see such a nice participation in such a active event. June 14th, I attend Espanola’s Relay for Life. The Relay for Life was an amazing event with a lot of support by the community. I was able to meet many cancer survivors which was great! I organized a Zumba fundraiser for Free the Children, this event took place June 19. It took a lot of work setting it up and thankfully there was a great turnout. Thanks to the wonderful help of my mom this fundraiser was able to take place and run smoothly. June 21st, 22nd and 23rd, I organize another fundraiser for Free the Children. This was a BBQ fundraiser, which turned out nicely. The weather was nice which allowed a good turnout and many people’s support. My family and friend were a huge part of this fundraiser, they really supported me and helped me make the fundraiser possible. July 1st, was the last day I attended events. I went to three different events in the one time, therefor I had to manage my time very well. I attended an Annual Strawberry Social, a Elks picnic, and a Firemen Boot Drive. As you can see, with my title I was able to attend many events and hold multiple fundraiser within my community of Espanola. While attending and organizing event, I was also busy doing pageant preparations. I was kept busy with writing my blogs and filling out/submitting many forms on time. I also have been busy with talk to the local media and doing interviews with them. During the whole time I was getting ready for the pageant I have went to school and have been able to maintain my grades. I travel by bus for 2 hours in the morning then 2 hours at night for highschool. I attend an all french highschool and maintain great grades. Graduating elementary school, I was rewarded the overall highest academics award; since then I have maintain a high average in highschool, with my average being over 85%. At the end of June, I had to study for and write 8 exams; this was stressfull at times with everything going on in my life. I have also been able to keep a part time job. Through all of this I am sure you are all getting a feel for what type of person I am. I love to play an active role within my community as well as fundraising for charities. I am very active (I enjoy working out) and somewhat artistic (I love playing the piano). I am determined, good at time management and handle stress very well. These are all qualities I feel are important to see in the Miss Teen Canada-World 2013.
The day has finally come. The first day of Miss Teen Canada-World has come and has gone. All the hard work and preparations have all been for this very moment. It seem a little surreal to think about the great experience I am presently living out and knowing it is something I will look back on and have great memories. Today I arrived at the hotel with all my luggage (which was a lot) and had the privilege to meet gorgeous girls from across Canada. I was roomed with a girl from Manitoba which was nice considering I am from Ontario and I am getting to know someone from another province. We started off with registrations and handing in all the needed information, I was a little nervous to forget something (but I didnt:) ). Then we, the national finalist, had a welcome party; we were greeted by the various sponsors of the pageant and the official charity of the pageant, Free the Children. I got the chance to meet and talk to more finalist and really got to know many of them and learn a little about there community. I was able to meet the pageant director, Michelle Weswaldi, and the Miss Teen Canada-World 2012, Megha Sandhu. After the welcome party we were giving more information the sent to our room for supper. Today was a fun filled packed day!
I can’t wait for tomorrow, day 2 of the pageant. We have our photo shoot, video shoot and interview all happening tomorrow. I am just so excited. I can’t wait to introduce my platform to the judges. My platform is to promote the importance of an education. I would like to talk to the canadian youth and tell the to continue there hard efforts in school and to strive for the best. I would hope to encourage them to continue to pursue there education with post secondary education. Anyways, I am very excited to see what tomorrow brings and I am sure it will be loads of fun. I hope to write a blog most every night to keep everyone updated.
Until next time:)

What a great blog challenge. S-Trip! is asking all the delegates of the Miss Teen Canada-World 2013 pageant to write a blog about our dream vacation. This is such a great opportunity for all of us to really discover our ideal vacation. As Miss Teen Espanola World 2013, having this blog challenge has allowed me to discover and somewhat plan my dream vacation. I have always had many ideas of places I would like to go visit but I never knew what location I would enjoy seeing with my friends as a student until now. For those of you who haven’t heard about S-Trip! here is a little information.
For over 35 years S-Trip! has been a leader in student travel providing life-changing trips to over 40,000 students annually in over 40 destinations around the world. S-Trip! travelers are encouraged to become global citizens; opening their eyes to new cultures, languages, and experiences. Recently named Profit Magazine’s 25th fastest growing company in Canada, and recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies by Deloitte and CIBC, S-Trip! is a leader in student travel in North America. Find out more at www.s-trip.com.
My dream vacation with S-Trip! would have to be Costa Rica. From what I have heard and seen of Costa Rica, I believe it would be a great place to have a vacation with friends. The country itself looks gorgeous, this is what first attracted me to the location, but it also offers various activities for students to do. S-Trip! provides numerous activities in Costa Rica that I ,myself, am interested in and I believe my friends would be as well.

I chose Costa Rica as my dream vacation for many reasons. It has great weather and beautiful scenery, it is considered to be a tropical paradise. I would plan to bring a few of my closest friends to this vacation, to really create my dream vacation. Being able to spend time with friends at a tropical destination will truly create memories of a lifetime. I would hope to enjoy my time on the beach relaxing but I would also enjoy doing a few activities while we are there. I would like to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about the culture, the history, and to do activities that I wouldn’t have the chance to do in my own country, Canada. I would for most love to take a day and help the community in which I am visiting. I believe the best way to learn the culture is to talk to the people of the community and to see what type of life they live. I would hope that I could volunteer my time to help the people with anything they would need. The volunteer experience offered by S-Trip! in the vacation to Costa Rica is to visit a local school and play an organized sport with the children. This volunteer work is very well suited to me considering my platform is to promote the importance of education. Visiting a school in another country would be a great opportunity and would be eye opening; I would be able to see firsthand how different countries educate their young people. Also me and many of my friends are very active and would love a day playing sports with the children. I believe this one activity will bring the best memories for me and my friends, giving back and helping complete strangers is the most rewarding thing in life to do. One of the items on my bucket list is offered on this vacation, SURFING. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to learn how to surf. I would enjoy so much the chance to learn such an incredible activity. I believe surfing is something I would want to continue after learning and what an amazing place to learn; in Costa Rica. S-Trip! provides a day at Tamarindo Beach, one of the major surf capitals in the world. Surfing is definitely a must do for me on my dream vacation. The rest of the days, I would ask my friends what they would like to do. I would want them doing enjoy the vacation just as much as I do; which they will because the trip will be organized through S-Trip!. In all, I believe that a trip to Costa Rica with S-Trip! will, without a doubt, be my dream vacation. What can be better than going on a trip to a tropical destination with your best friends!

What is a personalized golf towel? How would you do a commercial for them? If you were giving a $250K budget to shoot a 30 second commercial, what would you do? These were all questions giving to the delegates in the Miss Teen Canada-World 2013 pageant by one of the sponsors, Signature towels. Signature towel’s provides people with the opportunity to obtain embroidered towels customized to themselves. As Miss Teen Espanola World 2013, I have decided to pitch the sponsors a commercial on their personalized golf towel.
When pitching a commercial to a company you need to be prepared. Part of being prepared means you need to have more than one commercial idea. Most companies love to have options so they can choose what commercial best suits their needs. They enjoy having a choice between great ideas so they know they are picking the best. Therefore I will be preparing two commercial ideas. Both will have the same message, target market and budget distribution. The differences will be seen by the scenarios that will be played out in the commercial.
Both of the commercial will have a message that would demonstrate the personalized golf towel as more than just a towel but a memory as well. I would have a target market to young adults and to more mature adults who are active and enjoy the sport of golf. I would hire low cost actors to save on my budget. I would also rent a house for a day, along with equipment for shooting the commercial. I would have many outdoor scenes to cut down on cost. The rest of the budget would be spent on props (such as golf clubs, golf carts and some furniture in the house) and costumes/makeup/hair for the actors. I would hope to be time efficient with my shooting and keep all my spending within the budget.
The first commercial will start by taking place in a nice summer home. The house would be nicely decorated. It will have only two actors (one female and the other male). The female actor would portray the wife and the male actor would portray the husband. The wife would well out to her husband not to forget the personalized golf towels as she is packing the vehicle with golf clubs. The husband, who had just stepped out of the door, will go back into the house. He will run upstairs in search for the personalized golf towel and find it in a closet. As he grabs the towel he will take a pause. He will reflect on the great memories he has golfing which included the towel. The commercial will do a flash back and the setting will now be on a nice green golf course with a river running along the side. The husband will be picking up the towel from the clubs and wiping himself off. He will then make an amazing swing along with many more amazing golf swings. He will be shown laughing and have a great time with his friend at the golf course. He will be having the time of his life and playing the best golf game he has ever played. The commercial will go back to the house setting and the flashback will be over. The male will start running down the stairs to the car with both towels in his hand (his towel along with his wife’s towel). As he comes out the door he will say “I got them!” and will help his wife finish packing up the vehicle. The logo of the company (Signature Towel) will come out and a voice will come over and say “Not just a personalized golf towel but a memory”.
The second commercial will start off the kitchen area of the house. There will once again be two actors, one female and one male. Both of the actors will be at the table eating their breakfast. They will be enjoying their meal and looking out at the beautiful scenery. The scenery will of course be a golf course. Both actors while glance to the corner of the room where a golf bag filled with golf clubs will be place. On top of the golf club the personalized golf towels will be displayed. The male actor (the husband) will look over at the female actress (the wife) and ask her if she would like to go golfing. She responds with a smile and there they go to the golf course. They play a wonderful game of golf (fast forward/fast shots) with the personalized golf towels by their sides the entire day. There will be a few clips of both the actors using the towels. The entire golf day while be shown to the audience as the couple have a wonderful time filled with smiles. They are creating a great memory in that moment with the towel there every step of the moment. They will return back with a picture. Once at the house, they will set the picture down on a table. The camera will then focus in on the picture. You will see a gorgeous couple smiling along with the personalized golf towel in their hands. At the end of the commercial, the company logo (Signature Towel) will come out and a voice will come over and say “Not just a personalized golf towel but a memory”.
Both commercials would last 30 seconds and stay within the budget. I would also shoot all the scenes in Espanola since it is my home town and I am Miss Teen Espanola World 2013. We have a great golf course with a beautiful river just below. Along the golf course there are many gorgeous houses and this is what I was imagining throughout the process of making these commercials. I would hope both commercials would be received very well by the company and in the end they would choose one of the ideas that they feel is best suited towards their needs.
I hope you all enjoyed my commercial ideas 🙂

Canada is filled with gorgeous scenery from east to west. All across the country magnificent tourist attractions exist. From buildings to Mother Nature’s amazing creations there is always something to see in every town and city in Canada. Coming from north Ontario I have had the pleasure to experience some of Canada’s wonderful landmarks. The tourist attraction in my hometown of Espanola is not necessarily just one thing. Being Miss Teen Espanola World 2013, I have had the privilege to discover many of Espanola’s tourist attractions.
During the summer, this tourist attraction brings in thousands even millions of people through our town. This attraction is not in the town of Espanola but Espanola is the gateway town to this place. Our tourist attraction that is past our town is Manitoulin Island. Manitoulin Island is one of the world’s gorgeous creations. Manitoulin Island is only attainable, if taking a vehicle, by going through Espanola. This brings an enormous amount of tourist to Espanola.
A little about Manitoulin Island; it is the largest island in fresh water across the world. The island is situated in Lake Huron, one of Canada’s five great lakes. The island is accessible by driving across a swing bridge, which is now a part of the Ontario Heritage site. This island has the privilege to say it is the home of the biggest lake within an island; it is also the home of the biggest island in lake within an island in the entire world. Most people in Canada do not realize what type of spectacular creations the world has given us in our country. Manitoulin Island is one of many Canadian treasures.
Espanola is not only the gateway town to an amazing island, but it also has many other tourist attractions to offer. Espanola as a spectacular golf course, a beautiful recreational complex (with a pool, gym and ice rink all in one), a baseball and soccer field always filled with people enjoying themselves, an outside volleyball court, gorgeous lakes, amazing hiking trails, and many more attractions. Espanola is a town with a lot to offer. I believe Espanola if definitely a place to come visit. It is a great place to enjoy your summer and is a trip the whole family would enjoy.
Thanks to this blog assignment, I have realized how much my town has to offer. Therefore, I would like to thank the sponsors of this blog assignment, thank you Niagara Falls for sponsoring the Miss Teen Canada World 2nd blog challenge.
Thank you and please come visit Espanola,
Miss Teen Espanola World 2013 – Josée Poulin
What is a green building?
In today’s society many people are looking to become environmentally friendly. All across the world we are trying to help the environment. In Canada, we have various programs to help ensure the country is becoming more and more green. There are acts and regulations to protect the environment against harm. Protecting the environment includes protecting the air quality, the water quality, the wildlife and the nature. The term being green means to reduce, minimize or have no negative effect on the ecosystem and/or the environment.
Green buildings search to reduce and help against damage the building might have cost the environment. As Miss Teen Espanola-World 2013, I was asked to find an environmentally friendly building in my area. This task was sponsored by Tiocoat flat roof solutions, this company makes a white roof or rubber roof coating that is guaranteed for the life of the building. As I was looking for a green building I realized how many buildings there were in the area and that many had various ways of being green. I decided to tell you about one of many green buildings in my area. This building is the Domtar building located in Espanola.
Domtar is local paper and pulp mill. Considering it is a mill, most people would think it only damages the environment but this mill is trying to be as green as it possibly can be. Domtar has gotten energy efficient equipment. This equipment has improved the air quality and required less energy. This has helped conserve energy and reduce waste. Domtar continues to search for more ways to become greener. New technology is always coming out on how to be more environmentally friendlier and Domtar is always trying to do their best. Chips are used in the pulp process, while bark and fines are used as fuel for boilers to reduce fossil fuel requirement. Every little thing counts when trying to help reduce pollution and waste.
They have a dam which provides them with a natural source of obtaining energy. They use the river’s current to help them be more energy efficient. The dam is also known to be a designated fish sanctuary. As you can tell this mill is absolutely trying their best to be green. I believe it is doing a great job being a green building.
I hope this has helped you realize there are many green building within your community you just have to look for them. Some buildings won’t be obvious but the more research you do, the easier it will be to find them. Take the time to think about green building and what you can do to be environmentally friendly.
Thank you and talk to you soon,
Josee Poulin- Miss Teen Espanola-World 2013
Hi! What a great opportunity it is to be participating in the Miss Teen Canada-World Pageant 2013! I am so excited and honored to have the title of Miss Teen Espanola-World 2013 and to be one of many representing Ontario in this amazing pageant. Here is a little about myself. I am born and raised in the wonderful town of Espanola. As a child I enjoyed acting in our local theater productions and I have always had a passion for being on stage. I have played piano for most of my life and to this day I still love it. I went to a french elementary school and I am currently attending a french high school. Yes I am bilingual! I speak fluently both of Canada’s official languages, English and French.
I love volunteering in my community, going to events and doing lots of charity work. I live a very busy life; from going to school, having a part time job, doing things within my community and living a healthy lifestyle, I do not have much time for anything else. I am living my life to the fullest and having a great time doing it! I have a very close relationship with my family; they mean the world to me and they are my biggest supporters. My goal in life is to make a difference. If I am able to change something and it affects one person’s or many people’s life positively my goal will be accomplished.
Until next time:)
